Curious about Christianity?
ALPHA is coming! New Alpha Home Groups begin the week of January 15.
Alpha! A Ten-Week Practical Introduction to the Christian Faith
Alpha provides an opportunity for anyone to come and ask questions in a safe environment with no pressure. No question is too hostile or too insignificant. You can come, process through all your doubts and questions, and find out what the Christian faith is all about.
Alpha is for:
Anyone interested in finding out more about the Christian faith. Adults of all ages are welcome.
Learning and laughter. It is possible to learn about the Christian faith and to have fun at the same time!
People meeting together. An opportunity to get to know others and to make new friends.
Helping one another. The small group gives you a chance to discuss issues raised during the talks.
Ask anything! Alpha is a place where no question is seen as too simple or too hostile.
Alpha is for everyone! It's especially geared to:
- People interested in investigating Christianity
- Newcomers to the church
- New Christians
- Couples preparing for marriage
- Christians who want to brush up on the basics
What happens at Alpha There are a series of talks on topics such as:
- Who is Jesus?
- Why did Jesus die?
- Why and How should I read the bible?
- Why and How do I pray?
- What about the Holy Spirit?
- How can I overcome evil?
- Why and How should I tell others?
- Does God heal today?
- What about the church?
After each talk there is group time where everyone can discuss any questions or issues they have. This gives an opportunity to get to know each other and learn together.

Empowering students, grades 6-12, to be world changers.
Relentless Student Program
Students in grades 6-12 are invited to join us on Wednesday nights for Relentless, a service focused on meeting the youth where they are.
We have game time, live worship, a thought provoking message, and some weeks, small groups.
Doors open at 6:30 with open gym and the students can buy food in the cafe. Service starts at 7:00 and is done by 8:30.
We do ask that parents pick students up by 9:00.
Our vision at Relentless is to create a place where God is first and everyone around us is second. We desire the breakdown of cliques and age barriers so that the students can be loved and accepted not just by the leaders, but by every student.
Each night we start with a game that everyone can play to help break the ice. We follow that with worship and then a short message, aimed at the youth. We have covered all kinds of topics, such as The Cross: Sin, Death and Resurrection, David: The Life and Times, and Prayer: Fact or Fiction? Typically, we will do 3-5 week series, so that we can focus in on specific topics and discuss them thoroughly in our small groups, which we usually end the night with.
We throw in fun Event Nights every so often and roughly once a month we have a night of prayer and worship.
Come on out and join us!

Meeting the needs of men.
The Harbor Men's Ministry
The Harbor men's ministry is all about relational discipleship-- men helping other men grow as followers of Jesus in the context of life-on-life relationships. Our goal is for men to become who God created them to be as life-long disciples of Jesus. Being a disciple has to do with making Jesus the center of your life and seeking to become a replica of Him. This involves information about Jesus and what the Bible teaches. But it is also more than that. It's about application. Being a disciple of Jesus is more about who you are and how you live than what you know. Information is for the purpose of application.
That said, followers of Jesus need more seasoned followers to show them how to live as a follower of Jesus in the day-to-day realities of life. Jesus discipled his group of twelve men this way. He taught and modeled truth for them in the context of relationship. They learned from and imitated Him as they went about doing life. This was how those disciples understood Jesus' commission to make other disciples (Matthew 28:19-20). It is also how those disciples, in turn, made other disciples. That's what relational discipleship is and is what the men's ministry at The Harbor is all about.
Our guiding Bible passages that speak to this are:
As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.
1 Timothy 2:2
And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others.

Sharing the love of Jesus in tangible ways.
"If you oppress poor people, you insult the God who made them; but kindness shown to the poor is an act of worship". Proverbs 14:31
Love in Action is the name for The Harbor's community care giving resource. We look for ways to give, care and assist those in our community who are in need. As Jesus said "whoever gives a cup of water in my name is doing it unto me". We enjoy being a giving community, and give in Jesus name with all the power and awesomeness associated with His name.
Some ways Love in Action is expressing or has expressed itself are as follows:
- Sponsoring a monthly food distribution for families who are struggling to cover their housing, utility and food needs. The food distribution provides milk and dairy products, bread, fresh produce and meat. The food distribution is the second Saturday each month.
- Serving breakfast to Homeless families at a shelter in Maplewood. We serve the fourth Saturday each month.
- Serving dinner the 5th Monday of the month at Loaves & Fishes, an organization which cares for the homeless in the Twin City area.
- Working with freebikewash.com, a mission giving water and free motorcycle washes to bikers at the rally in Sturgis, South Dakota.
- Working to help replenish food shelves in Cottage Grove, Prescott and Hastings.
- Gathering shoe boxes of gifts for children throughout the world through Operation Christmas Child.
Love in Action is one way that people at the Harbor can minister to people who need to feel the love of Christ in a tangible way. We appreciate your involvement and help. Please contact Pastor Marv if you have questions or ideas.
