Meeting the needs of men.
The Harbor Men's Ministry
The Harbor men's ministry is all about relational discipleship-- men helping other men grow as followers of Jesus in the context of life-on-life relationships. Our goal is for men to become who God created them to be as life-long disciples of Jesus. Being a disciple has to do with making Jesus the center of your life and seeking to become a replica of Him. This involves information about Jesus and what the Bible teaches. But it is also more than that. It's about application. Being a disciple of Jesus is more about who you are and how you live than what you know. Information is for the purpose of application.
That said, followers of Jesus need more seasoned followers to show them how to live as a follower of Jesus in the day-to-day realities of life. Jesus discipled his group of twelve men this way. He taught and modeled truth for them in the context of relationship. They learned from and imitated Him as they went about doing life. This was how those disciples understood Jesus' commission to make other disciples (Matthew 28:19-20). It is also how those disciples, in turn, made other disciples. That's what relational discipleship is and is what the men's ministry at The Harbor is all about.
Our guiding Bible passages that speak to this are:Proverbs 27:17
As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.
1 Timothy 2:2
And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others.
Let’s consider how we can spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another…
Hebrews 10:24-25a (NIV)
Based on the above scripture, the men of The Harbor take personal growth and supporting one another seriously.
Here is a menu of opportunities to gather for growth, encouragement and some great fun over the next three months.
Saturday, July 15th
8:00 to 10:00am in The Harbor Welcome Center
A by-demand repeat showing of the video “The Neurochemistry of Addiction.” This amazing video was first seen by over sixty men last March. Many men claimed it was a game-changer for them. But many who saw it also reported it was too full of important information to take in with just one viewing. We are planning additional discussion and helpful follow-up information this time around. A light continental breakfast will be served. Bring a friend who needs to see this great video. Men need this information!
Saturday, August 26th

One thing we do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, we press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called us heavenward in Christ Jesus.
